Our society recently experienced a serious financial hardship at Ty Watson House, when the residents’ elevator broke down. As you can imagine, this type of specialized repair for the elevator took highly skilled trades experts several weeks to complete.
Despite our comprehensive insurance policy, the elevator repair was not covered, and the entire cost was $72,000.
These costs could not have been forecast in our yearly operational budget.
Operating without a working elevator was challenging!
We are grateful to the staff from Ambulance Services, Fire Department, Chapel of Memories, and Yates Funeral Home for helping us transport residents to and from the resident floor via the stairs while our elevator was not functioning.
In addition to nearly $80,000 donated by individuals and businesses in our community to cover the cost of our repairs, we were approached by an anonymous donor who donated $72,000 to start a contingency fund for future repairs. Any further donations in response to our elevator fund campaign will be added to this contingency fund to keep our operations at Ty Watson House sustainable.
Thank you for your incredible support!
