With this year’s theme being “James Bond”, there will likely be many elegant Bonds, a few nasty villains and more than one Ursula Andress entering the festively bedecked Echo Center on May 24, 2014.
Within minutes, the giant room will be abuzz with laughter and camaraderie as Bond people sleuth out coveted treasures in the silent auction before the bidding closes for the evening. The table where raffle tickets will be sold on the $2100 ring – a large purple amethyst encircled by diamonds – will be popular as this bling befits any Bond girl!
As the guest are seated for the gourmet dinner, this year created by the award-winning Starboard Grill chef, Brad de Clercq, a spirited bidding war will erupt for the privilege of being the first, second or third table to be served.
Following the elegant dinner, a little education about the work of the Hospice Society will be conducted before the fun begins as people learn if their final bid on the generously donated silent-auction treasures was successful. The evening will close with a highly entertaining and very active live auction.
Last year’s Black Ty Gala netted over $28,000 for the Alberni Valley Hospice Society’s programs and services, including the operation of Ty Watson House. The Black Ty Gala also supports Hospice Society services and programs that are offered across the Alberni Valley, including our one-on-one grief counselling sessions; our grief support groups that operate twice a year for eight weeks each; our Reiki and Healing Touch services for palliative clients, families and clients with cancer who are receiving therapy; our Caring Connections Program that allows people in care to reach around the world to family and friends through iPad capabilities; our Reflections Program which records life stories of people receiving some form of care across the Alberni Valley and our compassionate companion program where volunteers sit vigil with a dying palliative patient.
Because the operation of Ty Watson House and the programs of the Hospice Society are funded entirely by donations and grants, we are eternally grateful for the support of a community that digs deep into its generous pockets to help us sustain our operations each year. We simply couldn’t do it without you!
Tickets for the Black Ty Gala are available through Ty Watson House, Deb’s Fashions, Jim’s Clothes Closet, Boutique Belles Amie and Trend’s Design. 60% of your ticket is eligible for a tax receipt. Please contact the Alberni Valley Hospice Society Office at 250-723-4478 for further information.
