Donald John Harley

Donald was born in Port Alberni on July 20, 1962 to Pat and Al Harley. He was a gentle, patient baby, which was a good thing because his mom was only 17 and they learnt together what being a mom and being a child was all about. Donnie went to school here and in 1986 he joined the military, at the time of his death, July 4, 2009, he was still in the forces, and I was so touched and grateful for how supportive they were. When he was diagnosed with brain cancer in Sept of 2008, we were devasted and it broke my heart completely. He fought a brave battle but I guess it just wasnt meant to be. His funeral was something else again, it was a full military service and I know people always say nice, comforting things to those left behind, but I have never heard so many truly heartfelt words of comfort from people I never even knew. It made me feel so good to know that he had touched so many lives in such a positive way. You made me proud Donnie and whenever I start feeling down, I recall what total strangers said to me and it gives me a warm feeling. You were my first born, thank you for letting me be your mum. I will love and miss you until we meet again. All my love Mum.
