AV HOSPICE PALLIATIVE CARE PROGRAMS

The AV Hospice Society volunteers see clients and families who are living with a life threatening illness or experiencing bereavement.

Once referred, the Hospice Coordinator makes an initial visit with the client/family in their home, long term care facility, hospital or at Ty Watson to discuss hospice services and to assess the client's needs. The Coordinator continues to stay in touch with the client and family.

A volunteer or volunteers are assigned to client and/or family members as needed and desired. Client, respite and caregiver support can increase the quality of life and should be accessed early.

Available volunteer services include:

• companioning the client 
• anticipatory grief support for client and family
• provision and discussion of helpful information related to end-of-life, dying, caregiving and bereavement
• respite for the caregiver
• individual caregiver support or access to the Caregiver's Time Out Group
• practical assistance (reading, writing letters, running errands, outings, etc)
• Healing Touch or Reiki
• vigil sitting at end of life for caregiver respite or when a caregiver is not available

Clients must be registered with Home and Community Care Services in order to be referred to Ty Watson House.
